Ok, May I Jump on the Bandwagon?

I also just received the Shipping Data Report from Roy Sinor. My last day production Mille Miglia Red 1971 LT-1 (194371s121701) was officially built on July 16, 1971. It was delivered to Universal Chevrolet in Wendell North Carolina zone 16, dealer 795.

My Internet search has proven that this dealer is still in business and has been since 1932. Wendell NC appears to be just east of Raleigh.

Since I've just received notification of above, I haven't had the opportunity to contact the dealer or the Chamber of Commerce.

Is there someone from the area that may know of this dealership and/or my car?

I just checked the dealer and zone lookup and there was an entry for this dealership as dealer code 16. It was added by a employee that is obviously an NCRS member at one time. I sincerly hope someone will come forward with some information.

One last thing, i'd like to thank the NCRS, it's members and the executives for all of their hard work and I for one appreciate this very important document they have made available to it's membership.

Do a title search with the North Carolina DMV. They have records that go back that far.

Nicholas, Thank you very much for your suggestion. I just
sent an email to the N.C. DMV for a search.

        Robert--
Did you like the LT-1 article? Glad that we were able to have the numbers off your car as well.

Hi Mike, I thoroughly enjoyed your article to say the least. One question that may never be answered is the time span between my block cast date of March 13 and assembly date of my car July 15 and the April date of one of your examples as well. One can only speculate what had happened.

Thanks for your research and I will cherish that particular edition of the Restorer always

            Robert;

You are correct that Wendell is just east of Raleigh. It is home to the Mudcats baseball team and one of the shortest 18 hole golf courses in the State. If you can wait until next week, I can go to the dealership for you. PM me with any questions that you'd like me to ask. I'll also try to get a picture.

Ok Rob, as per my earlier PM, I have attached some pictures. All three buildings shown are attached, and the new dealership is across the street from them. l believe that the white building was the showroon when your car was sold, but I will have to check this out when I talk to them again next week.

For those reading this, yesterday I visited the dealership that originally sold Rob's 71 LT-1. This was Universal Chevrolet in Wendell, NC. They were surprisingly busy, and while I had to wait a little while, eventually the Sales Manager came out and talked to me. He was friendly and patient, but most importantly interested in helping. He first told me that most of the records were long gone. However, across the street (upstairs in the white building) there may be two things. A 3x5 card with the VIN, key codes, and other information, and the Bill of Sale.

They are looking for this information now.

                Hi Paul,

Thank you very much for the pictures. It's surprising with all of the dealers closing that this small dealer has survived since 1932. I will cherish this pictures always.

Robert, go to the NCDMV web site, they have/had a downloadable form for ownership requests. I do not know their policies today, but in years past, I found history on a '28 Buick, '29 Ford, and '61 Corvette, all going back to their selling dealers and original owners

Wow, I wish all states retained information like N.C.

Dick, Thanks for your advice. I found the form, filled it out and mailed it off earlier in the week.

It used to be the thing to get a California car, now the way to go is NC, good ole southern hospitality. great story too!

These kind of pictures are what we are all looking for!
