Want to find the original owner of your car?

One common theme of all posts in this thread is that we want to find the past ownership history of our beloved cars.

We all have information of past cars we owned or information on others who owned interesting cars. What we need is a new forum where we can post information on these vehicles (pershaps by vin if available). Separate it by region where the cars were sold.

My first ride in a 427 Corvette was in the early 70's. I was just a teen. A friend of my brother owned a 69 Fathom green saddle coupe with 390 ponies. While I was just a kid it was a thrill I never forgot and still have pictures standing next to the car. I have the vin tucked away and still have contact with "Ted" the original owner who parted with the car just about 15 years ago. He still has the protect-o-plate and warrantee book.

I had a 59, 66 and a 69 myself... While the stories may be long. The objective is to put past owners together.

Perhaps you have an engine, a warrantee book, sales receipt, or just a short story of a car which I may own today.

By the way I am looking for the original owner of my 66 Nassau blue/bright blue vinyl 427/425 conv sold in Phil, Pa in March 66. vin 16756

    Your thoughts??????????

I agree with your thoght. Several years ago I sat down and wrote a memo with my recolections of Corvettes I knew of in my hometown when I was young, and to the best of my ability who owned them. The local chapter printed it in their newsletter, not sure if it got any responses or not.

This is exactly why I build the C1, C2 and C3 registries. just post your previous cars or engines there and the current owner might show up one day...

The registry's just don't get the traffic that the NCRS forum gets.

          194676S117814 Protecto-plate

Here is an example of information that would at least be archived, at best prompt the current owner to act:

194676S117814 H= RALLY RED 66 CORVETTE 327/4SPD CONVERTIBLE. VEHICLE DELIVERY DATE- 4/5/66. CHEVROLET DEALER- JOHN MAY CHEVROLET, OHIO.

Your protect o plate and warranty book are on ebay now!

A problem with the registry is that there is no way for a person to attach additional information to a car already registered.

For instance, I found a car I previously owned listed in the registry with an unknown owner. So I can't contact the current owner with my information and I can't attach my information to the current record. What I did was leave a post in the forum, but that might disappear someday or never be seen by someone checking the registry but not looking at the forum.

If you would have mailed me we would have worked something out. This is still possible...

I have mailed the C2 reg person with no reply. That was a while ago, still.

There is no driver for people to register their cars. I wish there was, I don't know how you get around that. How many people added their information out of the many hundreds that paid to get their dealer info?

I think some group should register and store photos of everything that comes up for sale and bit by bit pieces would get filled in. As cars get circulated and SB cars grow up and become BB cars with knock offs and side pipes, the trail would be very interesting.

The other thing with where this thread started is all about finding original owners. Any one out there that has had a RED 66 427 VERT in the Philly area between 66 and 69???

                          Hi Rob,

I recall that I tried sending a message twice through the C2 registry and never received a reply. That is when I gave up and left a post in the forum.

I'll send the information, and a photo?, directly to you. By the way, the BB 66 convertible that I owned from 1972 to 1974 had a low rpm redline indicating it was a 390 HP 427, not a 425HP that is now indicated in the registry. Unfortunately, that engine was missing when I owned the car; it had a 327 in it, but it was originally a BB car.

I have just send a test request to the assigned C2 webmaster to test if the contact mechanism is still working as intended and it did. In the meanwhile Bruce and I will work out how to get the car info on his car in the C2 Registry...

                              ----------------------------------------------------------------------

I think the C2 Registry is a fantastic tool and I for one check it all the time although mostly only for 1963's.

Not criticizing, but what I do see wrong with the C2 Reg is that a number of entries are made incorrectly by users and it does not seem anyone is there to keep tabs or correct these mistakes.
I see Coupes listed as Convertibles, options listed for cars that we know are wrong and what seems like a default system where if you do not enter your cars engine hp it gets listed as being a base car.
A good number of registers also list their cars as they are in their present state thus showing us incorrect colors etc.

On the other hand, as a guy who has a hobby of recording 1963's within my hobby of Corvettes, my hat goes off to Rob and his site!!
There are a number of 63's I probably would not have come across without this tool and I'm sure it will also help someone with the history search of their car!
