    Re: Private Message Help

    Bob,

There is no reason to suspect that your message did not go out. All too often members email addresses change and they fail to update their profile with their new email address. This would cause your message to not be received, but it would also cause a bounced email message to come back to me. I pursue those bounced email messages by posting a Private Message to the offending member advising them that their email address in their profile is not working. I also remind them that a working email address is a condition of usage for the NCRS Technical Discussion Board.

After that I may get a couple more bounced email messages as it take time for members to catch up. If it persists for a week or so I then turn off that members access to the TDB. That usually gets their attention and they fill out a HelpDesk ticket or call to find out why they can't log in.

Another scenario is when a member gets an email notice that they have a Private Message and they just reply to the email instead of following the instructions that they must come back to the Tech Board and reply to the message. When they do that I get their answer to the Private Message instead of the intended recipient.

I always send the member a reminder that they must come back to the TDB to reply to the Private Message in order for the sender to get their reply.

I was the intended recipient of Bob's 4 outgoing messages. They were sent via the PM System on TDB. I did indeed receive all 4 of them. The problem turned out to be that I normally don't log in to the board under my user name. I am normally a Guest. So I did not know I had 4 PM's. I also don't tend to notice I have PM's because the contrast of black text on a dk blue background in the "notification" window isn't very visible. I also don't have the pop-up notification of new PM's turned on, if it exists.

Anyway, I apologize to Bob for him thinking I had abandoned him with his problem. I haven't. I gave him my gmail addy for direct communication as I open that every day. Now that we have the communication bug fixed, we can get his car straightened out too. Thanks for the indulgence.

Well...THERE you are!!! Thought you may have gone on vacation....

Got your private email address, and I'm about to run out the door to take my daughter to school. I'll be back to you via your private address....Mine is, Bdesi72@hotmail.com

I have to admit that I'm not the mechanic that you obviously are. So much of what you're telling me is an "Education," especially when it comes to Automatic Transmissions. I have a basic understanding of these things, but for "Hands On," that's something I WISH I could do!

        I'll be back,

        Bob
P.S. Thanks again for all your help

          Dave,

Thanks for the info. If it was up to me I'd turn off PM's on the system and have Member to member communication be via email.

I sent Bob a PM and he replied with a Visitor message on my Profile page, not with a PM. Go figure.

I've turned my PM's back off again.
