62 generator smoking

I took the 62 vette for a drive today and I started to smell smoke. When I opened the hood the generator was smoking. The generator has never been rebuilt and the voltage regulator is the original.

The brake light was going on and off while I was driving.

Any ideas on what is going on?

Dunno what's with the brake light, it should be unrelated. I'd take the generator to any reputable auto electric shop for a rebuild. If it's the original, tell them not to paint the outside or fool with the tag. Take the regulator with you so they can test it at the same time.

Your Voltage Regulator is stuck , replace it

If you let the smoke out, they won't work as well.

I'd suspect the voltage regulator. If you have the original voltage regulator, don't throw it away. They are very valuable. You can buy generic ones for around $40. Pirkle can restore your old one.

Original voltage regulator will have 1119002E stamped on the base.
