Re: 69 Shocks
George-----
The AC-Delco shocks are, in overall configuration, very close to the original shocks used on your 1969. However, color and markings are different. The color is easy to remedy with a re-paint with Quanta shock absorber blue/gray.
The stamped-in markings are the one facet of the configuration which will differ from the originals. Every Delco shock that I've seen has had the word "Delco" stamped on the lower portion of the tube. However, it's possible that practice might have been eliminated recently. The shocks also have a 7 or 8 digit part number stamped upon them at the lower portion of the tube. This number will ALWAYS differ from the originals. There is usually always a date code, too. Obviously, this will always differ from the originals.
The whole point is that the Delco shocks are as close to the originals as you can obtain today without finding a REAL OLD NOS set. This is VERY difficult and expensive if you succeed in finding them. For a 1969-dated set of the original part number, standard shocks you could expect to pay $1,000+ IF you could find any. The difference between this $1,000+ set of shocks will, esentially, be the part numbers and date codes found stamped on the lower portion of the tube. Still interested in exactly original shocks? In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top
