Core plugs on L/89 aluminum heads

Here's another one of those questions from left field. Can anyone tell me if
the factory aluminum heads ( 3919842 ) had steel or aluminum core plugs? I am
referring to the large plugs on each end of the head. Cast iron heads used
steel plugs. But what about the aluminum heads? I'm restoring an early set
of heads and I want to know if I can pirate a set of plugs from one of the
many sets of oval ports heads I have. Any recommendations? Thanks, Steve

6/19/67 and 8/24/67 early 842 heads have aluminum plugs; all others I've seen also have the same.

Hi Wayne,
Would the same hold true for late 69 casting date '842 heads? Now, if the
plugs are aluminum, wouldn't they be almost impossible to remove, being of
like alloys? Furthermore, if they indeed are aluminum, do you have any
suggestions as to where I can find two to four of these aluminum plugs? I'm
trying my best to make this L/89 completely original. Steve
