    1964 Restoration/Retrofit

I own a 1964 Corvette coupe that I bought in 1972. It was partially resored in 1989/1990. I am looking to change it over to a late model new fuel injected engine, air conditioning, four wheel disc brakes, paint, etc, etc, etc. I am looking for a shop that does this kind of work. I am in San Antonio,Tx. and would appreciate any referals to someone that does this kind of work. I would like an "excellent" retrofit so the car can be a comfortable daily driver.

    Thanx for any help.

Check out Paul Newman's Car Creations (No connection with the actor) at http://www.carcreationsinc.com/ Cars from his shop have been featured in Vette Magazine. I have seen some of the cars he has done in his tent at Carlisle and the work looks great.

Personally, I would limit the changes to true bolt-ons to control the cost and allow conventional restoration shops to do the work. For example, you could install the new GM "Ram-Jet 350" fuel injected crate engine package that comes with its own computer controls and wiring harness. The disc brakes could be from a later Corvette rather than an aftermarket supplier. The Vintage Air a.c. system installs easily without changing the battery location.

In other words, if you use known products that fit an unmodified '64 body, you can probably get a fixed total price quoted up-front for the installation labor. If you go exotic by installing C-5 suspension components, a new LS6 engine, and 18" wheels, you will probably have to use a "per-hour" pay plan.

I think most of the Corvette restoration shops would give you a price for a well-defined scope. The closest restoration shop to San Antonio that I can recommend is Naber's Motors in Houston. Their number is (713) 664-5018.
