I will be needing to have the frame on a '74 repaired due to 8" of rot on the passanger side foward the rear wheel. The driver side is starting to get soft in the same spot.
I planed on pulling the body and sending the frame (minus the engine and trans) to to a 'hot rod fabracator' in my area to have repair sections installed. I was going to use the after market pieces found in catalogs. The welder said the the best way to fix the frame was not to remove the body and he would fabracate pieces and do the repair with the body on. At a price of only $300 to $500 a side, it seems like a good idea. He further stated that he would not do the repair with the body off due to allignment problems in reguards to retuning the body to the frame. This mechanic has over 20 years in the custom auto field mostly on hot rods and race cars.
The question is, should I have it repaired with the body on, or remove the body, purchase the replacment parts and find someone who will install them. The car has no historic or original value. Any thoughts or suggestions would be appreciated.
Thanks Tom
