    1966 Gas Tank

I just bought my first Corvette, and I thought I had done quite a bit of research, but I was surprised when I went to fill the car up for the first time. The gas tank filler neck is huge (probably 3.5 inches in diameter)...almost like an aviation filler, there is no smaller hole for the nozzle. Is this typical or do I have an aftermarket/homemade tank? Thanks

Wes this is a plus feature in that you can see into the tank and see how much gas is in the tank. It also makes it easy to clean out. You can see good enough into the tank, at least on my 68 and 70, to verify that there is not anything but pure gasoline in the tank. I once go water in my 70's tank, very easy to remove the gasoline and then clean the tank. I removed my filler attachment to the tank and was able wipe it out by hand.

It does come in handy,I had a 67 the gas gauge floated all over the place. After driving it a couple weeks I thought I would investigate, after pulling a open can
of 104+ octane booster and a red shop rag out of the tank, not only did the gas gauge work but a pesky rattle was gone too.
