    C2 Small Block Casting

I read this somewhere and now I can't find it again. What is the casting mark that is a circle of dots with a pointer in the center? The dot at the 12 o'clock position has another dot above it. On my block (casting date Jan. 17,1966) the pointer is pointing to the 12 o'clock position. This mark is visable from the left side and is above or more to the center of the engine from the casting number.

the "clock" allows the casting foundry a means of identifying when the case was cast, ie shift time etc.mike

Rich - I believe that the 12:00 position is the start of shift, it seems if you look, there are 10 dots around the circumference. The shift indicator is in the center, a slotted head screw is first shift, I believe a phillips is 2nd shift. I can't remember what time the shift starts for each shift, but the 12:00 position definitely doesn't relate to noon or midnight....Craig

          Thanks Craig

There are 10 dots and there is what looks like "1" above the dot closest to 11 o'clock, but I see no screw head. I do see a slot head screw cast at the end of the date (A176) and there may be one at the beginning, before the "A". The pointer has a teardrop shape and the pointy end is at the 12 o'clock position. I see no other marks on the pointer.
