    Back-firing LT1!!!!

    back firing lt mark i just purchased a ' lt with original miles the car has only been driven miles in the last years so i expected to have some trouble which started tonight i have driven the car twice in the last month for about hours total and it ran great tonight we took it out and about an hour into our cruise the car started to back fire whenever i took my foot off of the gas to decelerate this got progressively worse and by the time we made it home the car was running very poorly where should i begin to trouble shoot

    re back firing lt john i saw on another board this exact question the solution for that one was a new condensor

      re back firing lt joe lucia another possibility is a defective a i r diverter valve you can check for this by removing the belt from the pump and disconnecting the vacuum line which provides the vacuum signal to the valve from the carburetor if this resolves the backfire problem you've found the cause another possibility is a defective ignition coil
