    T-10 TRANS FLUID

I am going to install my T-10 trans. I wanted to know the best fluid to use and how much to use. Thanks as always, Joe DeLuca #37862

Service manuel calls for 90 Wt. gear lube GL-5 rated. @ 2.5 pints. I used Mobil-1 Synthetic gear lube with great results.

agree that mobile synthetic gear oil is superior to petroleum based lubricants but its more likely to leak past the seals in older tranys.if you go with mobile, check for leaks firsh couple hundred miles.mike

            TRANS FLUID; synthetic vs. non-synthetic

            Joe,

I just had my '66 Muncie rebuilt by Ed Hartnett, who is a well known and respected transmission rebuilder in Corvette circles. Ed recommends not using synthetic oil, at least not in the Muncies that he rebuilds. Not because of a great liklihood of leaking, but because he's found that they don't shift as smoothly with the synthetic stuff compared with pertroleum based gear oil. I don't know if this is peculiar to Muncies or not, but if Ed says this has been his expereince, I believe him.

Gary - Ed is a super guy, with lots of knowledge. Joe L and I were in an advanced class with him at BG a few years back and I would trust his experience anytime...Craig

Just changed my fluid in my M-20 over to Mobil syn. and I have noticed smoother shifting.
