    LT1 Hood for a 71.

Guys, I know this might breach the technical discussion board intent, but I am having a hard time finding a used hood for the 71 LT1. I need to replace my hood and I appreciate the help. Please email me at CW5Church@aol.com

Is there a difference in the LT1 hood and the big block hood. They look the same to me. If so, any 68?-72 bb hood ought to work.

      Ed and Rick-----

1968-72 big block and 70-72 LT-1 hoods are the same. However, original big block hoods will have holes drilled for the hood numerals; LT-1s used decals, so no holes were drilled. Holes can be filled and a previous big block hood used for the LT-1 applications.

Keep in mind, though, that 68 to "early" 69 hoods were different than later 69 through 72. The hood used for all LT-1 applications can be easily identified by the presence of ONE hole for the hood latch cross cable retainer. Earlier hoods had TWO holes. There are other differences, too, but this feature makes IDing them rather easy.

Along with what has already been said, keep in mind that there are 2 hood support mounting locations for the 2 different style supports used in these years. Original hoods will have these mounting holes specific to the support used. There may be some transitional issues here also. Service replacement hoods may have dual support mounting locations.

1972 hoods used a different hood support. The earlier support (68-71) was longer, so the mounting holes will be in a different place.
