    C2 64 Battery & Cables Questions

Are the spring clip battery cables durable enough to disconnect after every drive or is a battery disconnect switch recommended? Also what current GM battery is the closest to the original size battery? Thanks!!

Use a disconnect switch. I use a Reproduction Tar top from New Castle battery company, it's not "close", iy's the closest you can get at this time.

      Bill:

Anything you can tell me about your experience with the New castle reproduction batteries? Do you feel they hold up as well as a new maintenance free battery? Would you recommend this type of battery for a car that is not going to be judged? When you say the New Castle batteries are "close", what are the differences?

Years ago I swapped the old style batteries in and out of the Vette I had but cannot remember how I did it so the acid did not spill out. Is this a big deal?

Thanks in advance. I hope you don't mind all the questions.

There are minor differences that only a guy like Doc Gurdjian would see, but otherwise it looks good to me. I can't speak to life re-modern maintenance free, but I've run repro tartops in the past for 5+ years, the secret seems to be keeping the water level up to spec. I just like having a "correct" battery in the car. It's a bit of a hassle getting the things in, but a plastic gargabge bad wrapped around it and the removal of the surge tank are about the only things I remember about it now. My last installation was a AIR car, so ther is lees to remember other than taing off the front wheel and what seems like a bazillion small bolts holding the cover on.

          Thanks Bill:

I think I will be needing a new battery soon and agree with you that the period look is nice. The garbage bag is a good idea.
