    Thank you NCRS!

Just wanted to say thank you to all of the NCRS members that worked so hard to make the 50th anniversary celebration in Nashville a success. I had the pleasure of attending many of the NCRS seminars and, as usual, they were all top notch presentations.

I can honestly say that the celebration in Nashville is the best car event I have ever attended. And that is in no small part because of the dedicated effort of NCRS.

I understand that the President of Chevrolet Motor Division became an NCRS member during the Nashville event. Way to go!

Was there an NCRS presence at Bloomington? If so I did not see it.

i'm told the mortimers, who were at Nashville, signed up more new members in one day than they did in 4 days at bloomington. its a shame, but i think bloomington is on the way out as carlisle replaced it 7 to 10 years ago as the premier corvette swap meet/auction/ and definitly in the judging department. mike

          Nashville/Bloomington

          Hi All,
          Mike is absolutely correct.

The nearly 200 new members that the NCRS volunteers signed up at Nashville (including the President of General Motors!) was probably more than we signed up at the last 3-4 Bloomington Gold shows combined.

Chevrolet really rolled out the red carpet for the NCRS at Nashville and we can't thank them enough. They provided everything we needed to have a very successful show and thanks to the car owners, presenters, volunteers- we certainly did.

Why the Bloomington Gold folks scheduled their Bloomington (St. Charles) show against Chevrolet/Nashville/Bowling Green seemed to be the question of the weekend. It had to hurt Bloomington's auction, attendance and vendor sales. The 20-25 thousand people who attended Nashville and Bowling Green and not Bloomington apparently came to the same conclusion as we did. Why miss a once-in-a-lifetime event for Bloomington? Hopefully everyone will be back next year.

          My $.02 worth.

            Eric,
Your question, "Why the Bloomington Gold folks scheduled their Bloomington (St. Charles) show against Chevrolet/Nashville/Bowling Green seemed to be the question of the weekend", seems to be popping up all over the 'net. To me the question is backwards. The last full weekend in June is Bloomington's date and has been for years. It was Chevy that scheduled their Event opposite the Bloomington show. Would be interesting to know what went on behind the scenes in the scheduling of this. Did Chevy contact Bloomington to try to work something out. I really think that it would have been great if Chevy would have piggybacked their Event with the Bloomington Gold show. Can you just imagine both of them being combined into one show? Wow.

But as you said, hopefully everyone will be back to Bloomington Gold next year.

              Re: Nashville/Bloomington

I can expand on this a little bit. If you remember, last year Bloomington was on a different weekend, not the last weekend in June, but earlier, June 14,15?? It was the same weekend as the NCRS Des Moines Regional last year.

In January, February and March of 2002 all the major Corvette organizations were involved in a number of conference calls with Chevrolet reference the 50th Anniversary celebration. Chevrolet advised everyone of the dates, location and plans. I was personally in on the calls as were representatives from Bloomington, SACE, NCCC, Chevrolet, Campbell Ewald and Carlson Marketing.

I don't know what transpired with the people from Bloomington and why they made the decision to move the event back to the same weekend as the 50th, but they were well aware of the 50th Anniversary in Nashville long before they announced that they were moving their event back to the same weekend as the 50th.

                  Vinnie,
That far in advance, wow, did not realize that. But one item in defence of Bloomington Gold. At that point thay had signed a new contract with Pheasant Run Resort to host the show for the next four or five years. Sure the first show there, 2002, had to be move forward one weekend due to the Resort being unavailable on the last weekend of June. (Their only option was to have stayed at the Interstate Center in Bloomington for one more year and that was not acceptable.) But they were locked in to the last weekend of June for the remainder of the contract. Could be that they would have liked to have changed the weekend but were unable to due to contract obligations. Plus it sounds as if Chevy may have been a bit heavy handed. The big boy on the block comes in and say we are doing our show on your weekend so you must change. Chevy knew that was the Bloomington Gold weekend going in. Kind of like the bully taking the lunch money.

BUT, Bloomington was great this year. Yes it did appear that attendance was down a bit but not by much. I had more fun this year than I have had in years. Lots of great people. Lots coming long distances for the show (Calif, Fla, Wash, etc). Just that I have always renewed my NCRS membership at the BG show. So looked all over the place for the NCRS tent and could not find one. So will have to renew through another venue this year. I would have thought that the NCRS was a large enough organization that it could have covered two shows at one time. Guess it is smaller than I thought.

Clem It doesn't take much ink for a good answer. You sure are right to have the 50th anniversary on the weekend closest to the date the first Corvettes were built was a true anniversary.

The actual anniversary date was June 30th, and it sure looked sweet to see all those 53's lined up in rows on Monday outside the original '53 Corvette assembly building in Flint with Noland and his SACC gang! Several owners drove them 800+ miles (and 800+ back) from/to the east coast - inspiring display, and it was great to have 14 of the original workers there as guests who put them together

Depends if you're counting "in town at once" or in one location at one time.

I believe 22 at the Assembly Plant at one time, but 25 in town.
