    C2 replacement spare tub/tray question...

Are there multiple manufacturers for the spare tire tub and tray offered in all the catalogs? If so, which is the better quality unit and who sells it? Calls to a couple of the big suppliers resulted in identical descriptions.

Thanks to everyone for your assistance. Regards, Larry

i prefer Jim Sermersheimer in Indiana for driver vette. If you intend to have NCRS judge it, look for nice used(carlisle) or NOS but it'll be salty. mike

The beauty of a repro upper tub is that it will accommodate a 205/75-15 radial on a 6" KO or BO wheel, using the "long" front hanger bolts and the "short" rear lock bolt. The original upper tub won't accept the 27" diameter of a 205/75 radial, but the repro will, as it's slightly larger in diameter.

        Good info, John, ....

you answered a question I didn't think to ask. My 66 has a set of repop KOs and I was going to order the long bolts both front and back with the expectation of purchasing a 5th KO for the spare even though I'd have to be in a really tight spot to actually change a flat. Do you think the short rear bolt will work with 215/70 radial? My guess is that the tire diameter is ok but does the 215/70 have a wider profile and require the longer rear bolt? (Don't have Duke's recent Restorer articles with me tonight.)

Thanks to both you and Mike. Regards, Larry

          Larry -

A 215/70 section width is about 5/8"-3/4" more than a 205/75; dunno if it requires the "long" rear support bolt or not.
