    C1 Driveshaft Yoke

I am in the process of converting my '56 from Powerglide to a manual BW T-10. The T-10 appears to be about 1/2" longer than the PG. This will limit the distance the driveshaft yoke can travel into the transmission by about the same amount of 1/2". I am concerned about the yoke "bottoming out" in the transmission whenever I drive over a bump on the road. Has anybody run into this situation before and should I have the driveshaft shortened to avoid any problems or would that be a waste of time and money?

    Thanks

    Pierre,
Without looking this up in an early parts book, I believe there is only one '56 driveshaft listed. I certainly would not shorten your present driveshaft! For one, if you wrap up the rear axle (on spirited takeoff ;-) ! the pumpkin turns near vertical and this tends to slide the driveshaft front yoke quite a way out on the splines of the transmission rear mainshaft. Regards,

Also, I think the PG and T10 use a different yoke with different spline count. Seems like the PG yoke will fit a Muncie, but not a T10. Like Jim, I'm going strictly on memory here.

My experience is that they used the same driveshaft and yoke from 56-62 for three-speeds, 4-speeds, and powerglides. They all used the long yoke with coarse spline. The transmissions were nominally the same length, and all used shifters that mounted in the same location (not necessarily in the same manner, as powerglides were very different 56-61)so that the same hole in the floorpan was utilized, etc.

I agree, too. All 1956-62 applications used the same driveshaft length and the same transmission yoke regardless of installed transmission.

Mike and Joe are correct. of course. The only difference in yokes is when a Muncie is retrofitted.
