Someone e-mailed me requesting information regarding the above-referenced engine code. My e-mail response didn't go through, so I'll just post the information here.
The "S" suffix code was used for 327 cid 250 hp engines with Powerglide transmission installed in full size passenger cars during the 1962, 1963, and 1964 model years. Of course, this just says what the block was originally part of. The block, itself, could have been reconfigured into just about any other 327 engine configuration by now. So, what it once was is not necessarily what it is now.
Given its origin, the block is almost certainly a GM casting #3782870, which was also used for ALL Corvette engines during the 62-64 model years. If the block still has the cylinder heads which it was originally fitted with, they will be GM casting #3795896. These heads were also originally used on 1962-64 Corvettes with 250 hp engine.
