Floor Sound Deadner C2

I've looked in the archives and cannot find the answer to this. I'm installing the sound deadner and carpet in the rear of a 65 coupe. Does the rubber get glued to the floor or is the insulated side down and you glue that to the floor.
Then the carpet gets glued to the rubber.

I used 3M aerosol Superglue to attach the sound deadner, rubber side down, to the the floor fiberglass, followed by a layer of aluminum tape on top to reduce the heat. Then I glued the carpet to the tape. See below, it worked for me.

In the pictures I posted above, the sound deadner/carpet pad is actually a thin commercial carpet pad. It is only 3/8" thick but is quite dense and heavy. I used this because I happened to have a roll of it handy. You have to cut pleats in it with a razor knife to fit the floor.

Since it is so dense, it seems to quiet the car noise down quite a bit; the aluminum tape acts as an additional heat barrier. As far as after market items of this sort go, I have heard of a product called "Koolmat" which does a good job. Their website is http://www.koolmat.com/corvette.shtml .

if you are going to install side pipes???

This car has original side pipes and it so darn noisy that I'm thinking of putting the sound deadner in the door skins. On the outer interior surface.Not where the vapor barrier is. Has anyone tried this?

Some aftermarket brands of sidepipes (eg. Allen's vs. Corvette Central vs ?) are much louder than others. I would suggest that different pipes would fix your problem much cheaper and easier.

Or, sell it and buy one with undercar exhaust.

I installed insulation against the outside skin of my doors to help with temperature and sound insulation. I also pulled the kick panels and put insulation there.

It all helps.

You may have it any way you want. :-)

Since I was planning to drive on the 50th Caravan from Oklahoma to Nashville/Bowling Green, and did so at the end of June, I chose to make the car a little more comfortable to drive.

1600 Miles in a 57 Corvette in June/July was much more pleasant with the insulation.
