Due to a collision I need a new radiator. The horns pushd into the rad and now it's leaking. Can a joe average rad shop recore my rad so I can keep the original tanks? If not any suggestions on a replacement. Are the aluminum replacements worth the extra cash? My car is a stock 2x4 car and did not overheat. It is very original mechanically and is a really nice driver. I do not plan to get it judged but want to keep it as original as possible w/o taking out a second mortgage. Thanks Ken

Re: 58 radiator
Ken
First let me say that you shou;d never take anything to a "joe average" shop.
Check around and find a good rad shop that's been in business quite awhile. They will be familar with your problem and should be able to fix it. If it's beyond repair I think DeWitt's is the way to go. They are not cheap, but how many times do you want to replace the rad. If your car doesn't run hot then replace with what you had, brass is certainly cheaper than aluminum. Hope this helps.

Re: 58 radiator
OUR LOCAL READ SHOP HAS RE-CORED ABOUT 6 C-1 RADIATORS FOR ME OVER THE YEARS USING THE ORIG TOP AND BOTTOM TANKS. ITS NOT A BIG DEAL FOR AN EXPERIEICED SHOP AND THE CORES WERE READILY AVAILABLE ABOUT A YEAR AGO. GOOD LUCK AND KEEP IT COPPER. MIKE- Top
