engine paint

does anyone have pics of what the engine overspray is supposed to look like or can explain also where the paint is not suppossed be if anywhere for instance is the back of the water pump suppossed to have paint ect???

Bob,
I have always just painted the entire engine minus the pulley on the balancer and waterpump. The judges like to see a fair ammount of overspray on the exhaust manifolds and a little on the aluminum intake. One area which I took a point or so at almost every meet on my 60 was the lack of overspray on the adapter for the powerglide trans. The JG calls for overspray on it since it was mounted when the engine was painted. My original showed no overspray when I disassembled the motor, so I put it back that way, but allways took a point.

Since the water pump and exhaust manifolds were installed when the engine was painted, there should be a lack of paint directly behind these items. You can see a "ghost" image of the exhaust manifolds on the side of the block due to this lack of paint.
I know the judges like to see some overspray on the exhaust manifolds and the intake manifold but I do not know if they look for the lack of paint behind the water pump and on the side of the block.
