Prior Owners

My local DMV has supplied my with past ownership history on my '63 Coupe. Their information only goes back to 1980. I'm told this is as good as it will get. Is there any one out there that I can talk to for help filling in the gap from 1980 back to new car ownership in 1963. Thanks mucho!! Mike #28614

The short answer is no. Few states keep records over 10 years. Even if they do, the new "privacy laws" will throw roadblocks at you. The best way? Start calling previous owners. Track down the guy who had the car in 1980 and simply find out who he bought it from, and go from there.

There used to be access to the NICB delivery records, which would give you your original selling dealer, but I believe that the detective agency, Four-Cee no longer does this, or at least don't advertise the fact like they used to do. Chuck

Thanks for the reply Chuck. The answer I'm looking for is "does anything in the Corvette community know of any agency or person who might be able to guide me to previous owners". I've done the obvious and spoken with prior owners with mixed results. Does anyone know of whom I might talk to????? Thanks.

Like Chuck said, there is no automated way to gain prior owner information. It's the long, tedious job of making phone calls, writing letters and hitting dead ends which typically results in trail head terminations....
