    Big B harmonic balancer?

Hi, anyone familiar with the correct part number on the harmonic balancer for a 68 BB. Is 3880060 sound correct? Thanks in advance, Terry

    Terry -

    My old P&A30B shows #3860008 (7" dia.) for hydraulic-lifter BB's, and #3860010 (8" dia.) for solid-lifter BB's.

          Terry-----

Any GM dealer can order one of the GM #3860008, which is the correct part for your L-36 and, also, is the original part number. Current GM list price is $272.37.

Thanks for the conformation on the part number, Joe. That's a lot of spare change to purchase one. Were they dated? Any idea? Thanks, Terry

I don't think that these balancers were dated. Even if they were, it would be a moot point since they'd likley be dated in the area covered by the pulley when installed on the car.

And, yes, this balancer is expensive. However, you could purchase one for a lot less than GM list from a competitive GM parts dealer like GMpartsdirect.com and several others. You might also be able to purchase an equivalent balancer from aftermarket sources like NAPA/Balkamp for a LOT less. The configuration may be identical or it may be slightly different, though.
