Re: Slit slot vs U slot

The 55-56 pass car wheels are sort of the same. As far as size and offset, they are the same. The 55 wheels are riveted (the center section is riveted to the rim) and the 56 wheels are welded. There is also a slight difference between the 55 and 56 center section just below the area where the bumps are located to retain the small hubcaps. It is most difficult to explain this difference without a picture.
I have two 56 pass car wheels which have the dog bones as shown in Roy Braatz's photo, plus, there is a hole between the dog bones.
I would suspect that both 56 pass cars and 56 Vettes used the same wheels.

Re: Photo of 1960 Wheel - with the rust...

Yeah Tom - I'd rather look at it from the face side of the wheel, but this picture appears to be what I call a slit slot. Now, if some creative photo person can offer up a pic of what I call a U slot. Thanks, Best, Dennis

              Re: C1 wheels HUMP

              Ok Roy,

              Lemme git this straight.

The is the "hump" you refer to on the spyder? Would the ridge line of the hump be visible around the perimeter of an installed dog dish hubcab?

The reason I ask is that I have a set of riveted 5 X 15 wheels. These wheels all have 3 rivets at 4 locations attaching the spyder to the outer rim.

One of these wheels has what I believe to be the "hump" as shown in your picture. The others do not.

Do these wheels have any Corvette applications? I've searched the archives and didn't find a lot of definitive information. Some of Dale's posts seem to indicate these wheels were used on 55 and some 56 Corvettes and passenger cars.

Where do we stand on riveted wheels this days?

I've wanted to post a question for some time, but nows as good a time as ever.

              thanks,
              tc

Re: C1 wheels HUMP " tracy"

OK riveted used on 53 to mid 55?? or later, I THINK. Yes the ridge will be visible using the small hub caps. Dog leg used from mid-late 55? to 59 and may be early 60 spot welded. 60 to 62 spot welded, no dog leg. The option 15x51/2 were riveted and also had the HUMP or ridge you speak of.
This is what I think , but that's ME.

BOW WOW! 3 dogbones reasonable to the right home!

I have three welded wheels with the dogbone cutouts in very good condition that I would trade or sell outright for three without, actually need four. I have a '62.

                      Michigan!

Roy, I'm in MI. I'd gladly pay the shipping to take you up on your very generous offer. Which wheel do you have? I'm trying to put together a set of 5 for my '62.
