    Radiator cap C2

Is RC 15 the correct cap for a July built small block? I've just moved and can't find my judging manual and I've done an archive serach.

Jerry - The RC-15 radiator pressure cap was not used on any small block Corvettes. Pete

        Pete,
I assume you mean no C2 cars use the RC-15 as both my 70 and 71 LT-1 copper radiator cars use the RC-15.

          Jerry-----

As has been mentioned, the RC-15 cap was NEVER used on any mid-year small block. GM parts catalogues are ambiguous, at best, regarding this and, in some cases, "strongly suggest" that the RC-15 was the applicable cap. However, this information is INACCURATE. ALL 1963-68 Corvettes with small block used an aluminum radiator with an aluminum supply tank. The only cap used with such a system was the AC type 307 OR the RC-26. These are the only caps designed for use on an aluminum filler neck.

The RC-15 was used for COPPER/BRASS radiator applications, such as those used for 66-68 big blocks and some 69-72 small blocks with A/C and/or THM and most L-46/LT-1. Also, the RC-15 was used for 1969-72 big blocks with A/C which used a copper/brass supply tank.

Incidentally, the RC-15 is now discontinued and is replaced by the RC-26. I don't know why GM didn't do this years ago. For PRODUCTION, it was cheaper to use the RC-15 where it could be used. After PRODUCTION use of the cap ended in 1972, though, GMSPO could have consolidated it with the RC-26. In other words, the RC-26 could always have been used in place of an RC-15, but an RC-15 should never be used in place of an RC-26.

Dave - You're right, I was only thinking mid-years. Thanks for the additional information and happy new year. Pete
