Once the headliner material comes unattached it might be best to remove the top and remove the complete unit from your top. Leaving your top home take it to an automotive shop that does this type of work and let them replace the headliner. Leaving your top at home or put back on the car insures they won't put any scratches on it. The liner on my 85 came out easily for this replacement.
