I have dissassembled my tilt-tele column to check the lower shaft and shift tube for signs of collaspe. It is clear that the shift tube had collasped 1/8 to 1/4 inch. The ignition rack was broken on the upper end and the ignition switch rod was bent. This accounts for the lack key to ignition switch operation. The lower shaft does not appear to have collasped. It does not show an sign of movement. For example, the rust pattern at the joint does not appear to be disturbed. The shaft is solid and will not move under hand pressure or light tapping. My question is, who can I call / contact to verify the length dimension of the lower shaft? Is there a rebuild shop that can verify it for me? All other components do not show any abnormalities. Thanks in advance.
