    63 Hubcaps

The hubcaps on my 63 are in pretty decent shape. There are only a couple of very minor dings on the edge of 2 of the caps. However, they are a little dull and need some polish.

I spoke with some resto shops and they say there is a special coating that GM Put on these that makes it difficult if not impossible to "polish". I'm also told that some elbow grease with some wheel polish such as Mothers or Simichrome does work and bring out the shine.

The spinners do have some pitting so I will probably replace the spinners but I want to clean the caps up as best as possible.

    Suggestions appreciated.

    Thanks,

    Joe..

I had a restoration shop in Fall River MA. remove the dings and buff the wheel covers on my 63. They came out very nice. I put on new resto spinners. The only problem now is the fins. There are 24 of them. It is expensive to have them rechromed. A friend of mine found a plater to replate his for $15.00 each.

      Bob,

Thanks for the info. Do you by chance know the name of the shop in Fall River or other contact info.

      Thanks,

      Joe..

ps: Long Island Corvette has the spinners for $30 and the fins for $98 per wheel (double ouch). So that's over $500 not including polishing the wheels and removing the few dings. (Triple Ouch!)

I had the wheel covers done by Brightworks Restoration, 136 Kennedy Street, Fall River, MA 02721. Steven Grace tel # 508-646-6690. It is amazing how he can remove the dents. He did my wheel covers about 2 years ago. The cost was about $250.00 for the 4 of them. I did have alot of dents in them.
I just got my windshield trim back from him. I sent him the interior and exterior pieces on my convertible. Again I thought he did a great job. The cost for that was about $270.00.
He has a real small shop in his basement. Turn aroud time was about 6 to 8 weeks.
Several members of my local vette club have been using him for years now.
