When replacing my U-joints, should I go with lifetime lubed joints or the ones with grease fittings? Any particular brand recommended? None of my joints have failed, and they aren't original as they have fittings, so maybe I shouldn't replace them? I will soon have the rear bearings apart so that would be when to do it if I'm gunna...

Re: U joint - With or without grease fittings?
Tim,
I don't know what you are going to do with your Corvette but it doesn't really matter on the U-joints. The ones without fittings are the same ones with fittings and they are greased the same grease. No such thing as lifetime U-joints in the real world.
The ones without fittings will not pass a good judges eye because the configuration is completely different from the originals. The ones with fittings will be caught even by an idiot judge on his first assignment.
Pushing some grease thru the fittings every 10,000 or so miles helps my peace of mind when I'm driving.
My 2 cents and the choice is still yours.
Regards,

Tim
The u-joints without fittings are heavy duty. If you have high horse power you may want to consider the these units. Otherwise it makes no diffrence except in judging.- Top

OK, if I check my u-joints and they are not loose, feel smooth, and have fittings for me to grease, is there any reason I should change them versus keeping them??- Top

Re: U joint - With or without grease fittings?
Actually Tim, I have never experienced a situation where an NCRS judge rolled out from under a car and said a single word about u-joint grease fittings. I believe C-1 cars had grease fittings and I base that mostly on the owner's manual that tells you to grease them on a regular basis. Beyond that, I renew them as a matter of standard procdure and feel quite confident I'll never have to look at them again during my lifetime other than an occasional shot of grease. Best, Dennis- Top

Re: U joint - With or without grease fittings?
I have had u-joints fail that were not on a high horsepower car. The reason for failure was the grease had dried up in the u-joints. Of course this took about 15 years of steady use to happen.
If you can use a u-joint with a grease fitting, I would do it. It should help prevent failure of the u-joint. They are a pain to replace.- Top

Tim
There are several good answers to your question but this is what I do.
If I have the shafts removed and am unsure of the age of the u-joints, I replace them as preventive maintenance even if they seem 0K.- Top
