    C1 (1959) Wire Bracket Clips

Were these 15 or so wiring harness bracket clips installed before or after the black paint was applied to the under hood area? In other words were the clips and their screws painted or were they left unpainted?
    Thanks,
    Brad #18060

    Brad,
They were in place when the blackout was applied. In order to make them correct though you should consider the following: the clips were already painted a gloss black when they were applied with unpainted phillips head screws to the inner fenders etc. The screws were not painted at that time. So when you look at it, you have gloss black clips with black out paint applied over the top of them with the screw head getting mostly covered with black out paint. If you really want to have fun, clean off your original blackout paint down to the original fiberglass that is under the clip, put the clip in place with the screw and do your blackout. When you have the car judged adjust the clip just a little to one side so that the original fiberglass shows a little looking as though it is the original blackout. Obviously you only need to do this on two or three to get the effect.

Thanks Gary, for the quick response. Another question along the same line....
What was the paint scheme on the front edge of hood (and on the back edge of the hood surround) where there are two brackets rivited 8 times to the fiberglass (with 10' x 3/8" rods screwed on extending down to the back edge of the grill) I'm sure that exterior color was applied to this edge after the blackout. Was there a lot of body color overspray on the black bracket and screw and rods? Or was it masked off?
      Thanks again,
      Brad

        Brad,
An honest answer to your questions is I don't know. Reasonable deduction would say yes, there should be some overspray, but I have never judged one where we considered this area for overspray. I know that on the 56 and 57's there are little rubber bumpers at the front edge of the hood that should show some body color overspray that would lead me to believe for your 59 that you MIGHT see some. It may be a situation where it wasn't seen on all therefore it is arguable. Sorry I could'nt help more.
