    Chris,

I got the tape removed from the sender and it works fine now, thanks for your help!

The generator seems to work but the voltage regulator doesn't. I'll build it out this weekend and have a thourough investigation.

    greetings,
    Rob.

Try hitting the voltage regulator with a rubber hammer. Usually this condition is caused by the points sticking.

The period correct method to fix the voltage regulator is to hit it with a wrench. If this happened in 1959, that's what the motorist would do to fix it on the road. That's why so many of them have dented covers.

        Chris,

I'm a bit reluctant to start hitting my correct regulator with a (rubber) hammer. i'm planning to do some surgical research on it (opening the damn thing) and to find our what is wrong with it. Does anyone has a diagram/schematic on the contents of the regulator?

        greetings,
        Rob.

I believe there's an adjustment procedure in the Passenger Car Shop Manual. Don't believe you can troubleshoot them on a bench because they'd need adjustable power source and load. Could be there are point gaps that can be set.

I think the usual problem with them is that the points stick. Either stuck open or closed. They're supposed to make and break a connection. Maybe if you take the thing off the car and open it up, you can fix it by removing any rust or crud you find and spraying the whole thing with WD-40.
