    leaking w.washer bag

65 327/350 airconditioned roadster. Appears to have original bag which leaks
and probably loses vacuum at the cap. Is there normally a gasket between cap and plastic top of bag? If not, any suggested fix other than replacement? Thanks

    Re: leaking w.washer bag

Factory original washer bags were a form of canvass (backside) and can/do 'rot' out over time. The reproduction bags are noticeably different (front/rear material + size/position of brass eyelets). I don't think I'd throw away an original washer bag if that's what's on your car. There may be a means of coating the inside with some form of clear, flexible sealer....

On the cap, it was a simple stamped aluminum piece designed to make an interference fit against the filler nozzle. Bag wasn't intended to hold pressure! Washer pump 'sucks' a column of washer fluid from the bag and since the inlet is 'under water' that's sufficient to maintain a hydrostatic head through the supply hose to the washer pump. Air needs to enter the bag to relieve pressure as fluid is used up....
