    C2 rear spring install

I am attaching the trailing arms to the spring. Body is off of the frame. I got the right side connected with no problem, but I am having an alignment problem on the left side. When I get the end of the spring jacked up, the hole in the end of the spring is 1/2" to 3/4" to far to the rear to line up with the bolt in the end of the trailing arm. I can get the end of the bolt in the hole, but it is at such an angle that I can't get the seat, bushing and washer on the end of the bolt. I am hesitant to tap on the spring with it loaded up flat. Any tips on alignment?

    Re: C2 rear spring install

    steve,
I just bolted the spring on my 67 coupe Wednesday. I had the weight of the body on the frame, so I don't know how this effects differently. I remember reading a post from Duke, so I tightened the four spring-plate bolts just about an inch each. I then lifted one side and tightened the castle nut by hand, not enough to push through the cotter pin though. When I got to the other side and raised the leaf and saw a similar situation as you explained. The rear spring bolt was at an angle towards the rear to penetrate the spring hole in order to sit the cushion in the cup. I was able to wiggle the leaf slightly and it went through. The four plate-bolts are flush against my spring, so I also had a bit of a tough time moving it. I hope this helps.

Thanks. Now I know I'm on the right track.
