    66 Clutch Cross Shaft Questions

Although not shown in the AIM, some parts catalogs show a plastic seat in the engine side of the clutch cross shaft. This doesn't make sense to me, since tightening the nut on the stud on the frame side would pull the engine stud off of the plastic seat on the opposite end of the shaft. Should there be a plastic seat for the engine stud?

Also, how many felt washers are required? I know one fits over the frame side stud; is there a second for the other stud? (Again, I am confused by parts catalogs indicating two felt washers are required but not indicating their placement.)

Thanks as always for your help,

    Mike S

Re: 66 Clutch Cross Shaft Questions

Mike: There is only one felt washer and it is on the outboard side of the cross shaft. It is located between the frame mount and the shaft. There is also two
plastic seats for the ball stud also on the outboard side of the cross shaft.
You have a plastic seat- ball stud-plastic seat and then a snap ring which holds it all together. Look in the left side of the shaft and you will see the grove for the snap ring. The ball stud on the eng side of the shaft has a rubber washer on it which slides into shaft and seals it when mounted.
    Hope this helps.
