    Repro parts for a C-2

I just got a new air cleaner lid from Long Island Corvette. It was $95.00. Either I'm being too picky or their stuff is poor quality. I'm thinking of sending it back but thought I would post here first and catch other peoples opinion.
The chrome surface has some waves in the plating and a couple of very light scratches. On the back side the silk screen is very poor almost fading away completly in places. The plating on the back side has several scuffs and scratches.
Has anyone had similar experiences with air cleaner lids? Maybe someone could recommend a better source?

I have had good luck with Long Island Corvette. If I had a problem, (very rare) I called and it was immediately corrected to my satisfaction. I haven't purchased a chrome air cleaner but I believe the first person you should talk to is Long Island Corvette and give them a chance to correct a problem to your satisfaction. They have been a good knowledgeable resource for me.

      Bob,

Steve has answered your question perfectly. Long Island may have that yankee attitude sometimes but they are one of the best if not the best suppliers in the market today. Give them a chance first!

By the way, did GM supply concours quality parts or assembly line parts?

      Regards,

      JR

I got an air cleaner lid from Doc rebuild and it looks great. Maybe it's just me but the few times I have had to get something from Long Island I usually get a healthy dose of bad attitude from them to go along with it.

The underside sounds about right, the silk screen was hit and miss at best. I think they are trying to duplicate the originals, you might get a dark one or a light one. The judges know this and it's not a deduct.

Ian, I second your comment about L.I.C.S.! I was there personally one day and was browsing their small showroom area and I was basically treated like I was a shoplifter. I have never gotten a bad product from Doc Rebuild. BTW I bought my air cleaner cover from Paragon several years ago and it was perfect. Just my 2 cents.

The original lid on my '67 327/300 was too far gone to save; I got the Paragon #1756-C repro that's "flash-chromed as original" (not the triple-plate show-chrome one they also offer), and it's excellent - correct forming at the center hole and around the edges, correct curved silk-screening, etc. Nice factory-looking piece, and it's $35.00 less than the otherwise-identical triple-chrome lid.

I have had too many bad experiences with Long Island Corvette parts being scratched, torn, dented, illfitting or just crap like their attitude, to list....If I wasn't so paranoid I'd say they just ship seconds to see if they can get away with it.....too many better places to shop....send it back and call Paragon or The Doc......

I live 30 Mins. from LIC. If they had the only part that was keeping me from Top Flight I would settle for second. They will not see one more dime from me. Ever.

nothing but positive experiences with LIC here; perhaps because I always fax in my order (and thus I have not had too much direct human contact) I never have encountered any 'tude, but I am a big boy anyway so as long as they have every part in stock (they always do) and ship my entire order out the same day (they always do) and seem to me to be quite honest in their catalog about which parts are trully correct (never got any "scratched" parts from them) I am happy to use them - can't say the same things for the other joints, but I use them all from time to time, everyone has their strenths and weaknesses. I also am a Doc Rebuild fan too, but if you are thin skinned you might not be able to handle the "direct, no nonsense" approach there either; I have no issues with it; perhaps being a no nonsense Connecticut Yankee myself helps.
