    Seat Back Latch on 69

I am rebuilding the seats in my 69 coupe by stripping to the frames, welding breaks, bead blasting, repainting and reassembing with new foam and covers. I noticed that the pivioting latch hook on the seat back on both seats appears to have been painted yellow. It appears this is the first time rebuild on these seats but I cannot be sure. Is it correct that these latchs be painted yellow? If not what finsh should be on this exposed latch hook?

Also on the front face of both the seat bottoms are two small screw holes and one seat had a thin crome plate (about 2" by 3") screwed into these, is this orginal? If so what is this plate for?

    Steve:

The holes are for the seatbelt retaining clip that are on the front bottom seat frame. The seatbelt webbing slides into this clip to retain the end with the buckle.

It sounds like one clip is missing all together and the other clip has the top half broken off and all that remains is the half that is screwed to the bottom seat frame. As I recall, the latch hooks were either natural finish or silver cad plated. If you use paint stripper on them, you will see how they were finished. I have taken 69 seats apart (have some in the garage) the latch was not painted. Now, the part that was attched to the bottom of the seat was painted silver. That is my experience with it. Good luck, Terry
