    C3 Alignment shim finish

I am about to complete the restoration of the front suspension of my '68 Corvette, and have a question regarding the finish on the alignment shims.
I have tried to search the archive for information on the issue, but without luck.

Information on the issues is appreciated.

Ole Original shims I have seen are all rusty so I belive they were natural steel on 72-73 sharks. Correct style replacements are always cad plated but they do their own thing. Lyle

      Don't Forget The Obvious...

Sometimes, we overlook the obvious place to start searching for restoration information; i.e. the Technical Information Manual & Judging Guide. I don't really understand that since the TIM&JG (sans a few errors or omissions) will actually be the standard to which our car is judged. Maybe the 68-69 TIM&JG doesn't have this info, but the 70-72 manual sure does, and I learned something today that I hadn't thought about. I guess we 70-72 owners are really fortunate to have such a good restoration manual...Thanks, Terry.

        You are welcome Chuck, but

a lot of folks contributed to the now 10+ year-old 1970-72 TIM&JG. They all deserve a huge amount of credit. I appreciate your kind words, though.

          Re: C3 Alignment shim finish

The 68-69 TIM&JG does not address front suspension shim finish specifically, but does state hardware (in general) is natural finish. Mine were so rusted that individual shims were almost indistinguishable, which leads me to believe they were never coated with anything.
