Re: Yer not all wet Clem...

I think Delco serviced that cap in either blacl or brown. I only remember one number in the Chevrolet parts book at that time but Delco offered the choice. There's probably still three or four of those brown caps in my mothers garage from the 60's. Next time I'm back there, I'll look. Sure is fun finding things there that I haven't seen for 35 years. Wish I had all the money I spent on race cars in that era.

Michael, I was working in an International Harvester truck dealership at the time. Times sure change. I blew the engine (what was that thing in the dash right above the steeting column? I changed gears when the engine started popping and quit pulling ) in my first Corvette (61) in 1963. You could buy a new 327 FI short block for about $250 or so dollars. I had to settle for knurled pistons, new rings and bearings. I believe that the parts were about $50.00. I did the labor myself.

            Dick,

That sure brings back memories! In late 1963, I spun a rod bearing in my 57 Chevy and instead of fixing the original, I bought a new 360 HP 327 short block and I still remember the exact price. $244.41. What a bargain.
