    No Headlights on my '66

I just recently installed a front engine wiring harness which includes wiring for the headlights and parking lights at least up to the connection leading into the headlight buckets and parking lamp housing. The harness was obtained from Lectric Limited. The installation was easy and straight forward (not for my hands and arms at least). Everything works fine and maybe even a little bit better, however, my headlights (high and low beams) and parking lamps do not work. Turn signals, tail and brake lights work okay. I have also replaced the headlight switch and wiring harness that goes into the headlight buckets. I still have no headlights or parking lights. They worked prior to the harness change.

It's time to stop creating new words. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks.

    John,

This answer is not what you are going to want to hear but you need to get yourself a wiring diagram and a multimeter. You will have to take the time or hire someone to run the wiring and find the wiring mistake. Start at the firewall connector and make sure you have 12V going to the headlights and parking lights.

Have you checked the fuses? Did you disconnect the battery when installing the new harness?

Sorry I could not be of more help but it's going to take some detective work to find the problem.

    Regards,

    JR

        John:

Do not discount a possible defect in the harness as they built it.

My 68 Lectric engine harness had a defect, and I had to resolve it with their customer service folks who admitted that some of the 68 harnesses had defects when built.

        FYI,

        Rich

I believe I have solved my problem. By studying the wiring diagram in greater detail, I noticed that the circuit for the headlights passes thru the dimmer switch( makes sense). I was able to obtain 12 volts on both the hi and lo beam circuits and when bypassing the dimmer switch I had functioning hi and lo beam headlights.
I suspect the dimmer switch has gone bad. The terminals appear to be very oxidized and/or corroded.
Moral of the story- Study the wiring diagrams and test the circuits.
            Thanks for your inputs!
