My ampmeter on the 63 seems to have spun 180 degrees. I replaced the needle to where it should be but I want to test it before I reassemble the dash. Any one know a simple proceedure? Thanks Larry Boden

Re: c2 bench testing ampmeter
Larry, use a 1.5 Volt battery AAA. VERY quickly touch the contacts on the gauge and look for a reaction. Reverse the contacts and see if you get a reverse reaction. I suggest you do NOT leave the gauge with power from the battery to long or risk kissing the gauge good by.

Re: c2 bench testing ampmeter
Larry, It takes about 1.25 amps to deflect the meter to full scale (40 amps). Using a 1.5 volt battery in series with a 1.2 ohm resistor, the meter should read approximately full scale. (Ohms law: R=E/I; 1.2=1.5/1,25). Reversing the battery, the meter should read full scale on the opposite polarity. Radio Shack has a package of two 1 ohm power resistors for under $2. As the battery voltage will sag when testing, you may want to use a "D" battery. Dixon- Top
