Who needs a a radio? Not when you have the beautiful music of sidepipes to listen to as you run up and down the gears! It doesn't get any better than that. Remember, "if it's too loud, you're too old".
If you like the look and the sound of the side exhaust, go ahead and use that system. You can install the sidepipes neatly with only a minimal cut to the body at the front fenderwell, and as you said, the mounting tabs for the rocker moldings are already gone on your car. Only a small discrete fiberglass cut is needed at the dogleg in front of the rear wheelhouse. I converted my 67 427 roadster to side exhaust, and with 3.55 gear it's loud but not unpleasant at highway speeds. I love the sound as well as the look on these cars. There is also less interior heat.
