    '64 Distributor Shielding

Per the '63-'64 Judging Guide, the '64 distributor shield uses only two rivets to hold the internal mylar guard in place while the '63 uses three rivets.

The distributor shield on my '64 has three rivet positions for the mylar.

Does the Judging Guide infer that the '64 uses only two of the three rivet postions provided for in the shield or should I presume my '64 has a '63 distributor shield, thus three rivet postions?

    Best regards,
    Charlie

I can't tell you for sure but I wouldn't throw yours away just yet. Do you have a early or late 64?

Look at your serial number, but if not a VERY early car, assume your '64 has the '63 top shield, Also notethe '64 top shiels is the same as '65 except (by memory, I don't have my JG handy) I believe the '64 used metal rivits to hold the mylar in place where the '65 uses plastic.

        Noland's book has the answer.

          Re: '64 Distributor Shielding

My car is a late '64 (17,705) and per the JM uses two metal rivets for the mylar. I understand that the use of plastic rivets began in '65 as has been stated.

I looked in Noland's book and the photos of '64 show shielding with two rivets. I'll keep what I have and be on the lookout for a good condition original '64 shield.

It is interesting that the previous owner of my car also had a '63 and both cars were simultaneously undergoing work at a shop in Tulsa. Inside my distributor shielding was written "64 Red" in felt marker. It is possible that someone has a '63 car that has '64 shielding with a notation inside stating "63 XXXX"! Just a thought.

          Thanks and best regards,
          Charlie
