If I remember correctly, the "A" after your car's job number means that there were two identical cars going down the line, one behind the other. This was common as many dealers would order duplicates of something that sold well. I don't remember if the first car would have been just numbers without the suf letter and the 2nd car "A" or if the first was "A" and the second car was "B".- Top

Depends on where the body was built. Ionia used a different coding system than St Louis. The alpha code told the line workers how to treat the body based on certain option combinations (similar to an ECL code, but proprietary to each of the two plants). AFAIK, nobody to date has a full, or accurate list of those "body build" codes.
