I finally got to my C2 and looked at its VIN tag. The 1st tag says "Detroit Michgan" then, "style H-30", below H-30 is "67-437" Then under that it says "Trim 407AA". Across from "style" it says "s4674 Body". Across from "Trim 407AA", it says "974AA Paint. The tag to the right says "Chevrolet DD", then the numbers "19437s115180" below. Could some one explain to me what these mean? Thanks for all your prior help. Dale

Re: VIN tags.
The serial number you have written is missing one digit. It should read 19437_S. The car must be from 1965 - 1971 based on the numbers provided, the missing number is specific to the year of the car. The last 5 digits are specific to your car and help you figure out the date the car was manufactured. If you have the original engine the last five digits will be stamped on your engine pad passenger side front top of block.- Top

Re: VIN tags.
You've got a 67. It's a coupe "437".
The H 30 is the body build date. ??? April 30. The Black Book states that they started to build 67's in September, so September is A, and so on.
Trim 407AA. It's Red Vinyl.
S4674. It's a St. Louis body, the 4674th. coupe body built that year.
Paint 974AA It's Rally Red.
The VIN should be 194377S115180. You missed a 7. It's the 15,180th. Corvette built that year. The Black Book shows that it was built in late March of 67.
SO, Probably the Black Book is incorrect, and they started building in August, so August would be A, and so on. That would make your body build date March 30.

Re: VIN tags.
Many thanks, I did leave one of the 7's off when I typed it. It still is a 1967 rally red coupe with red vinyl interior. Now I know it was built at St. Louis on March 30, 1967. Every thing checks to what it is. Gracias from Albuuerque. Dale- Top

Re: VIN tags.
Hi Dale. The "S" means that the body was a St. Louis built body. There were 2 body sources, St. Louis and A. O. Smith in Ionia Michigan. Bodies built by A. O. Smith had an "A" prefix on the body number.
All of the Corvettes themselves were assembled in St. Louis at the old Corvette plant. They moved to Bowling Green in 1981. Chuck1963 Corvette Conv. 327/360 NCRS Top Flight

In addition, the "AA" after 407 indicates ...
... a coupe, even if you didn't know where the tag was afixed. Also, since the interior is not black (ie STD.or 402) and this is a St.Louis body, the double AA is an ECL code meaning no body options (ie. no A31, A82, A85, M35, N03).- Top
