    Re: C3 '71 Engine Removal

It's a real PIA to switch the castors, the rear castors bolt to frame and the front use a bolt for axle thru "tabs" on front. The way it is now is fine for my other projects so don't really want to change it. If I place the hoist in "front" of wheel well and "angle" towards engine, it looks like it will work OK. I think this may work better than straight from the side.

    Thanks

Used a engine hoist from U-Haul Rental and came in from the side on my 70 when I replaced and installed the engine. Did not remove the hood, radiator, or fan shroud. Did remove the front wheel. Did not have in problems.

        Dennis,

The car was on the ground with no "extra" ground clearance. You can best accomplish it, however, by having the radiator and support removed. I'd personally say this even if you only take out the engine alone.

The engine will clear if you leave the pipes as you describe. For extra room you can always remove the clamps at the transmission crossover, then remove the hanger connections at the rear. This will allow you to rotate each entire exhaust assembly outward for more room. I did mine on my 71 in this fashion and did not replace the exhaust at that time.
