    '74 NOS Delco Distributor Cap

What could one anticipate as a reasonable payment for a black, NOS, Delco Remy brand distributor cap, complete with correct markings, i.e. Patent 571594

Re: '74 NOS Delco Distributor Cap

        Ray,
That patent number is not correct for a D-308 Delco cap. To the best of my knowledge the 571594 fits a 442, GTO or some non chevrolet muscle car(s)of the late 60's or early 70's vintage. You will notice that cap is of heavier construction than the D-308 and most likely has copper conductors which D-308's have aluminum. It may fit and work fine but is not a D-308. The correct patent number for a D-308 ends in 047 and has 7 numbers.

And I sold many of the brown caps for less than two dollars when I worked in parts at the local IH dealership. We would sell 10-15 caps a week.

            Dave,

I didn't realize that the 571594 number was incorrect for the D308 Cap. I had picked up on those specifications only from a listing in a corvette parts supplier catalog that listed the following: 68-74 Distributor Cap w/Delco Remy (3 11/16" tall) NOS D308 says "Delco-Remy Patent "571594" on top of cap (no longer available.) I'm surprised that these unique details are not listed in the '73 & '74 TIM & JG. I appreciate you passing this new information along to me. I'll continue my search...a bit more carefully. Thanks.

Dave/Ray - I think you will find that the 571594 is the Canadian Patent Number. Pete

In the previous response, references is made to the patent number being 7 digits and ending in 047. What is the 7 digit number that one would look for on a D308 cap?
