    Hand Brake Handles Revisited

We have been discussing whether there is more than one style hand brake handle on the 68 and up sharks. This is the result of a quick check of four cars in my shop at this time. 68 ser.# 1445 has Black handle of the early style with diamond pattern. 68 ser. # 24803 has chrome trimed handle early style. 69 ser.# 7682 has chrome early style. 69 ser. # 20224 has chrome early style.

The different styles can be identified like this. EARLY - The pattern on the sides of the handle is shaped like diamonds and are sharp like cut glass, the pattern extends on the forward end of the all the way to the end bezel. It is one half inch wide across the top of the handle near the front tapering to five eights inch at the but end. LATE - The pattern is more like small dashes only extends to within an eight inch of the bezel ie. it has a border completely arround the pattern. It measures five eights inch across the top with little taper toward the but. Both early styles are seen in all black or chrome trimmed. Obviously they were redesigned to strengthen the plastic handle. I hope we can here from owners to nail down where the change occured sometime late 69 or early 70 maybe.
