C1's on ebay can someone explain to me

Please tell me how this works. Three people are selling 1958 vettes on ebay. Two are selling nice, but not original or correct cars. Look at the soft top on the yellow car, for 35 to 37 thousand dollars. I think they are dealers, they both have over 16 bids. The one guy who seems to be a private owner & has a more correct car has 0 bids. It sounds funny to me. Can people cheat on ebay. I know I am naieve, can someone teach me something.I'd love a comment on the soft top on the yellow 58.
    Thanks in advance,
    Deb

The yellow 58 soft top bow that should be connected at the rear window top belt area is off for one thing. Who ever put it on may have only charged $29.95.

        Different approaches to eBay selling

Can people "cheat" on eBay? Yes, if by cheat you mean "be unethical".

Sellers can bid under a different name in their own auctions or have friends bid for them. Bidders can have no intention of paying anything for the item. They can also retract their bids at the last minute. These practices aren't aren't present in every car auction, however.

The auctions you mentioned take very different approaches to selling. The auction with few bids has no reserve with the initial bid starting at $29,000. In other words, even one bid should result in a sale. This auction also has almost no text description of the car. The two dealer auctions started the bidding much lower, and they both have a reserve. That means the first 10 - 15 bids in each were below the reserve and would not commit the bidders to pay anything. The dealer's descriptions may not be as thorough as you'd like, but they are certainly longer than the private seller's.

Buying a car through eBay is much like buying one from a print ad. You can meet some very nice, honest people. You can also meet some crooks and idiots who just happen to prefer to use their computer to jerk you around. I suggest you proceed with normal caution and avoid any deal that appears too good to be true.
