    Paint Removal

What is the safest way to remove all the old paint from the fiberglass body without damaging the fiberglass or any previous repairs?

Any reputable distributor for Auto Body shop supplies should have a stripper specially formulated for stripping fiberglass.
I just was at such a dealer this week in Massachusetts and saw such a product as it caught my eye; I believe it was called Kleen Strip or something like that.
I used chemical stripper to strip my 68 and it was called TAL strip. Did the whole car.

If you are doing it yourself, Cap'n Lees spray and strip works very well and won't damage the fiberglass. You have to use stripper that is designed to work on Fiberglass. Don't use aircraft stripper. Or you can take it to a media blaster; just make sure they are experienced with fiberglass.

Eckler's has it for $32.99 / gal. You'll probably need a couple of gallons, depending on how many layers of paint are to be removed. Spray it on a section and let it sit for a few minutes, then scrap it off with a bondo spreader. I then toss the mess into a bucket for disposal. You'll also need lots of scotch brite pads and paper towels. Make sure you put a large sheet of plastic under the car or you'll have a mess on your garage floor. It's a nasty messy job, but a lot cheaper than paying someone to media blast. Good luck!

FWIW, Corvette Central sells two one gallons cans of Captain Lee's for $49 - just a bit cheaper.

I've used the Kleen Strip with excellent results. It's a gel like formula that really sticks to the sides of cars. Made specifically for fiberglass. Just let it stay on long enough to lift the paint, then scrape it off with a plastic scraper. Make sure when your done with a panel to wash it with HOT soapy water. Then wipe it down with lacquer thinner just to make sure. Any good auto paint store would carry this product. It's about $25 per gallon. You will use about 1 1/2 gallons on the average car. Dont let it get into the nooks and crannies of the body, just sand those out by hand.
