Yes, I'm convinced this a 3871266 because the change to that number would have occured long before 66 SOP. The problem is, it doesn't conform to the print for 3871266 if the print calls for square corners at the junction of the tab and the main body of the barrell. I still think it was on print but never was changed from the first design 3868828.
I just received a scan of an NOS 3868828. There are several differences in the design, not limited to the slot/hole issue. The length is 3".

Joe . I have all 8 from 16120. this engine was removed in 1966 . they are 3 " long and also have a small stamped indent at the base of the slotted tab next to the barrel. There is a picture of a short slotted one in Dobbins book. and a picture of a long slotted one in the Paragon catalog. mine looks like the one in the Paragon book.Comment

Louis ,the seam is on all of them .It is very noticeable from the inside and just a slight raised line on the outside.It is not in the same spot on all shields but is on the long part on all of them. BillComment
